Timor-Leste

This database is designed to provide massive electronic storage of interpretative overviews, documents, photographs and audio files, and will be made available through the web for all the participants of all the projects conducted within and in collaboration with the Globalism Institute.

It is an open-source community-driven database and all public material submitted is accessible to communities and researchers. We will continue to post information directly onto websites where significant and timely. However as this is not either sustainable nor easily searchable, as a publicly usable database we hope this will provide a rich community resource over the longer-term. To submit research materials (such as photos, essays, field notes, reports, recordings, transcripts and articles) please follow the instructions below.

Guests:
Unregistered users may access the database through the Guest Access. Entry as a Guest allows the user to only conduct searches of the available material. Guests cannot upload or download files from the database.

Registered Users:
Only Registered Users may submit or download material from the database. To become a Registered User, you must be associated with a Globalism Institute Project or alternatively be a community member who works or researchers in one the areas as listed under our Themes.

To become a registered user please select 'Register an Account'. Fill in the information required and you will be emailed your User ID and Password. Thereafter, registered users need to enter their User ID and Password before selecting 'Connect' to log on to the database.

Submission of Materials:
Login to the database and click on 'Submit File' in the top-left of the screen.

File Submission - Step 1: Please select 'Timor-Leste' under locations, and at least one checkbox under each of categories of 'Gathering the Evidence', 'Life World Themes', and 'Social Themes'. This enables the future searching of material in the database by themes and material type, as well as by key-words, titles and so forth.

For example, an article on changes to maternal health policy in Timor-Leste may be categorised as 'Policy Documents' under 'Gathering the Evidence', 'Health Care and Medicine' under 'Life World Themes', and 'Equality-Wealth Distribution' under 'Social Themes'.

File Submission - Step 2: Under 'Enter Asset Information' fill in the details for each file under 'Caption', 'Description', 'Author', 'Keywords' and so forth. Please take a moment to review commonly-used keywords for the Timor-Leste-related resources that have already been uploaded. Where possible it is desirable to maintain some consistency across the keywords submitted by users. The first keyword entered should be 'Timor'. Other commonly-used keywords include gender, nation-building, justice, security, place, community, women, oil, trade, intervention, development, international organisations, NGOs, government, human rights, health, UNTAET and UNMISET. Once completed please click on 'Submit Files' at the bottom of the page.
Please note that submitted files will not appear on the database until the content of the material has been approved by a Research Site Manager. This is simply a 'safety mechanism' to avoid materials in our database being corrupted by viruses or inappropriate material being loaded to the database.

Search hints: when searching for resources it is best to view the search results using the 'Details View', which you can select by clicking the second button from the left under 'Search Result' in the top bar. Commonly-used keywords for Timor-Lested-related resources include Timor, gender, nation-building, justice, security, place, community, women, oil, trade, intervention, development, international organisations, NGOs, government, human rights, health, UNTAET and UNMISET.

Please see the Global-Local Database page for full information about using this database, or contact Todd Bennet, Database Manager (todd.bennet@rmit.edu.au), with any queries.
